Frequently Asked Questions
What social media platforms does this tool support?
The tool supports Twitter/X (280 characters per tweet, 160 for bio), Instagram (2,200 for captions, 150 for bio), Facebook (63,206 for posts, 8,000 for comments), LinkedIn (3,000 for posts, 220 for headline, 2,000 for summary), TikTok (2,200 for captions, 80 for bio), and YouTube (100 for title, 5,000 for description).
Does the character count include spaces?
Yes. The character counter counts every character including spaces, line breaks, punctuation, and emojis. Most social media platforms count characters the same way, though some platforms like Twitter use a special encoding for emojis and URLs that may affect the actual count on the platform.
Why does Twitter show a different count than this tool?
Twitter has a unique character counting system: URLs are always wrapped and count as 23 characters regardless of their actual length, and some emoji sequences count as 2 characters. This tool counts raw characters, so there may be small differences for content containing URLs or emoji sequences.
What does the color of the progress bar mean?
Green means you have plenty of characters remaining. The bar turns amber/orange when you are within 10% of the limit (90–99% used), signaling you should be careful. It turns red when you have exceeded the character limit.
How do I check my text against a specific platform?
Click any platform tab (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) above the limit cards to filter the view and show only that platform's limits. Click 'All Platforms' to see all limits at once.
Can I check multiple field types for the same platform?
Yes. Each platform card shows multiple field limits. For example, Instagram shows limits for Caption (2,200), Bio (150), and Comment (2,200), so you can check your text against whichever field you are writing for.
Does this tool count emoji characters correctly?
The tool counts emoji characters by their JavaScript string length. Most standard emoji count as 2 characters (because they are outside the Basic Multilingual Plane), while some complex emoji sequences like ZWJ families may count as more. For practical purposes, treat each visible emoji as 2 characters.
Is there a word count feature?
Yes. The tool shows character count, word count, and line count simultaneously at the top. Words are counted by splitting on whitespace after trimming the text.
Does this tool store my text anywhere?
No. All processing happens entirely in your browser. Your text is never sent to any server, stored, or shared with third parties. You can safely use it with confidential content.
What is the LinkedIn post character limit?
LinkedIn allows up to 3,000 characters for regular posts. The headline field allows up to 220 characters, and the summary/about section allows up to 2,000 characters. This tool tracks all three simultaneously.
What is the ideal caption length for Instagram?
While Instagram allows up to 2,200 characters, studies show captions between 138 and 150 characters tend to drive higher engagement. Longer captions work well for storytelling posts. The limit shown by this tool is the technical maximum, not the recommended length.
Can I use this tool on mobile?
Yes, the tool is fully responsive and works on mobile browsers. The layout adapts to smaller screens so you can draft posts on your phone and immediately check platform limits.
